GEEZE! looks like Apple was a bit late with its implementation of USB 2. So it looks like this 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac only has a USB 2.0. Vendor ID: 0x089d (Icron Technologies Corporation)

In many cases the newer MacBook Pro do not feature a USB 3 Type A Port. Please explain to "the rest of us" how we are supposed to know whether this is a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 from this data?ĪH HA! i found another listing labeled "USB Bus", with "Hub" under it which when selected says: If you connect these devices to an USB 3 port on your Mac, in rare circumstances. but here's the data which is given in System Profiler: The ones specific to the 5,1 are: Mac Pro (Mid 2010) and Mac Pro (Mid 2012) ATI.

i would upload a screen snapshot, but this feature is apparently not working here. New graphics cards for Mac Pro from Apple are not available anymore. I would advise skipping the ExpressCard slot on your Mac altogether for this issue. On my Mac at work, i'm running OS 10.6.8. Note: Sonnet used to make a ExpressCard to USB adapter that would have worked, but they no longer sell the product or support it. one : sonnet son-usb3-4pme is the way to go for mac pro since model 2010.

Here's the Kanex link for the product: Thunderbolt to eSata + USB 3.0 Adapter Guys, Im currently looking to upgrade my Mac Pro 5,1 with a USB 3.0 PCIe card. It's a bit pricy though at around $75-$100 USD so it might make more sense to get yourself a thunderbolt drive or put the money towards a newer system at this point. If you have Amazon, you can find the adapter there, or you can get it straight from Kanex directly. Backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices. pics provided: built-in camera on Mac Pro, other web cam, Foscam web cam. NEC component for the highest level of performance and compatibility. Foscam Pro allows you to take control of your Foscam IP cameras directly from. The fastest technology available on the market (up to 5Gb/s). At least they offer support for their products so if it doesn't work you can return it or talk with someone who makes the product. LaCie USB 3.0 PCI Express Card (1x) Add two USB 3.0 ports to your computer. Kanex makes a bunch of stuff for Macs and their stuff is hit or miss. Devices employing USB 3.0 specifications are planned to be available to consumers in 2009 or 2010 and would be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1.

I hunted around for a product that might help and the best option I could find was to get you Thunderbolt to USB 3.0 via the Kanex Thunderbolt to eSATA plus USB 3.0 Adapter. I'm not a big fan of adapters used to try and improve speed as they tend to not work as well as you expect. The 2012 models have USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt, so the adapter is irrelevant Adds four USB 3.0 ports to your Mac Pro with PCIe slots, Windows PC, or Thunderbolt-to-PCIe card expansion chassis transfers data up to 10x faster than over. The 2011 models have Thunderbolt and the info is accurate below. As pointed out, the info is inaccurate for the MacBook Pro 2010 as it doesn't have Thunderbolt yet.
